The story of the spectator shoe
Spectator shoes got their name from the crowds at summer sporting events, where the contrasting two-tone leather became a sign of leisure and good taste. In the 1920s and 1930s, the style moved from the grandstand to the city street. By the 1940s, the spectator pump was a wardrobe staple for women, worn with tea dresses, suits and swing skirts alike.
The classic spectator pairs a light main color with darker leather on the toe cap and heel counter, often finished with decorative perforations along the seams. We have kept these details true to the period, from the shape of the toe to the height and placement of the heel.
Every pair is made from full-grain leather with a leather sole, in small production runs. Discreet silicone inserts under the insole give you the comfort to wear them all day, whether you are dancing, working or walking the city.
